The best multi floor layout I've seen for a house had a vertical empty space towards the middle with a pipe that they used for installing all the cabling that then fed to the other floors of the house with a small horizontal crawl space on the ceiling of each floor as they knew they would want to install or replace cabling several years later. You may want to install a few different network jacks in the ceiling at different points, especially where you can see internet devices being more heavily used. Wireless and anything RF is entirely dependent on the environment it's installed in. If you install them exactly vertical of each other, the corners of the house may not receive proper signal so you may need to put them on different corners of the house. For your size house, I would recommend two of them but you may need a site survey to determine proper placement. Most people complain like this is a deal breaker, in my opinion it isn't if your only dealing with one or two AP's but if you are planning on using a poe switch, this will impact that.Īs far as the AP's, mine have literally been set it up and forget about them, but I also use a centrally managed controller that I have running on an AWS ubuntu instance where I also manage several other client's unifi installations.

The one thing to keep in mind, only the pro unit is 802.3af POE compatible. The new unifi UAP AC models are outstanding. I've personally used ubiquiti unifi products for over 3 years now and they've improved with every revision. I've also tagged Austin with Ubiquiti in case you have any additional questions.
